Practice singing the melodic minor scale using a strategy of your choice. Three strategies are provided below. The Movable Do solfege system uses the singing syllables starting on La (the sixth scale degree of the relative major scale), the Scale Degree system uses numbers and the Fixed Do solfege system has the first scale degree considered as Do.
Notice where the semitones fall.
Ascending:
Moveable Do: Ti - Do and Si (raised So) - La
Scale Degrees: 2 - flat 3 and 7 - 8
Fixed Do: Re - Me (flattened Mi) and Ti-Do
Descending:
Moveable Do: Fa - Mi and Do - Ti
Scale Degree: Flat 6 - 5 and flat 3 - 2
Fixed Do: Le (flattened La) - So and Me (flattened Mi) - Re
* HINT - The methods here will make an impression on how you feel the sounds and their patterns in the scales. Keep repeating these strategies until this happens. Eventually it will click!
