This exercise uses a tie in bar 4. A tie combines the rhythmic value of 2 notes into 1 sustained note.
Clap, tap or speak the rhythm keeping a steady beat. Then play the recording to check your work. You do not need to perform the pitches.
4 beats will be played to set up the tempo followed by the bar with the pickup and then the rhythm played by the piano.
*HINT - Notice the pickup note that leads into the exercise. Try counting one empy bar to establish the tempo, then in this case, count to 3 and begin the rhythmic exercise on 4.
