Pick Up Notes

Pickup Notes (anacrusis) are found in a partial measure that acts as an upbeat for the following measure. When pickup notes are used at the beginning of a piece of music the final measure will also be incomplete to total one complete measure.

The following example has an eighth note as a pick up. 

 

Rhythm

To practice rhythm, look over the exercise. Start by tapping 1 bar of a steady beat.  Continue tapping this steady beat and clap, tap or speak the rhythm of the exercise.  

*HINT - Tap one steady bar followed by a bar that contains the pick up before beginning.  

 

Sight Singing

To Begin, look over the exercise.  Then play the recording.  There will be a broken chord followed by the starting note. 

Sing along with the recording using the solfege words provided.
